Collage Portraits With Whitney Avra

Mixed media artist Whitney Avra will teach you how to make old vintage images POP with bright, bold colors, fabrics, sequins, paper collage elements, and loads of spunk. Watch these photos come to life as you make a one-of-a-kind piece of art! Class is welcome to all levels.
Materials Included in your Creative Box:
- 2 black and white photos (8x10") chosen by Whitney
- Acrylic paint
- Jelly Roll Pens: black & gold
- Paper collage elements
- Vintage findings: sequins, lace, ribbon, bits of fabric, etc.
- 2 paint brushes
Other things you'll need:
- Cup for water
- Paper towel or napkin to clean your brushes
Whitney grew up in small-town Arkansas, where she graduating from University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelors of Science in Education in 2008. After teaching elementary school for six years, she moved to Austin in 2014 and used the transition as an opportunity to immerse herself in creating art–beginning with her first series of work, "The Matriarchs," inspired and influenced by modern women. Whitney is a contemporary mixed-media artist working with vintage portraiture photography to explore phases and facets of feminine identity. Whitney has solo-exhibited at Elisabet Ney Museum and has been featured in The Chronicle, Austin CultureMap, and Spark Magazine. Whitney is represented by Maestri Gallery in Dallas.
